2023 Campus Climate Survey

The University took a step toward understanding the campus climate in 2016, with a climate survey that measured attitudes and experiences of faculty, other academic appointees, postdoctoral researchers, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students on a broad range of issues related to diversity and inclusion.

In May 2023, the University will launch another climate survey aimed at understanding current perceptions of the campus climate related to many of the same themes. An advisory committee composed of faculty, staff, and student representation from all divisions and schools and many major administrative units have provided input into the development and deployment of this survey.

Administering the survey and reporting these data are only the first steps in using the 2023 Campus Climate Survey to understand and improve the climate on campus regarding diversity and inclusion. The survey results will help us understand progress made toward our institutional values and will provide a threshold against which to measure future improvement; will catalyze communication and discussion; and will contribute to the development and implementation of new programs, policies, and activities designed to foster a more inclusive climate.

Our understanding of these findings will be enriched through engagement and discussion across campus. There will be numerous opportunities for the campus community to attend forums to discuss the data and their implications, and to help shape the University’s approach to addressing concerns raised in the report.
